Welcome

These are exciting times for Schutzhund Malaysia: the time is right and the ground swell is at it’s highest.

At the recently concluded King’s Cup Schutzhund Competition in Hatyai, Thailand, four out of six competitors were from Malaysia and the winner of the Cup was a Malaysian, Mohd Azman with his Malinois ‘Zeno’.

It was apparent that our standard is higher and yet we did not have any trials or competitions!

SK Lim has started the ball rolling and we hope to feature his challenge trophy annually, as one in the loco-regional Schutzhund Trial circuit.

We are pleased to invite Mr. Poompitak from SV Thailand.  Poom is a methodical, strict but fair Judge.

We urge you to pay particular attention to his critique after the dogs’ performance and this is one of the highlights of a Schutzhund trial.

For trial Helpers, we have arguably the best Helpers in the country and region: Michael Lee and Henry Yew. Michael has participated in seven World Schutzhund Competitions. Henry, Michael’s protégé, is an up and coming star in local Schutzhund scene..

He was the sole Trial Helper in the Thailand King’s cup held in March 2006 in Hatyai and has earned his respect from the competitors and, more importantly, from the hardest of dogs!. You will see why.

We welcome you to the scenic and idyllic Iskandar Polo Club Ipoh where we have had several Schutzhund seminars before.

Enjoy the good food, local hospitality and the competitive but sporting spirit of a true Schutzhund Competition!

Dr. Loo Voon San
Organizing Chairman

SK Lim Biography

Mr. Lim Say Khoon, more popularly known as SK Lim throughout the K9 World, was born and bred in Ipoh, Perak Malaysia.

Aptly nick named "The Dog King" in Ipoh, where his life has intimately revolved around dogs since his teenage years.

As fate has it, he landed in the United Kingdom in 1979 for his veterinarian studies and has since settled down there.

SK Lim owns and manages Lyfame Kennel, a very well known kennel throughout the United Kingdom. It is situated in Newbury in the county of Berkshire, England.

SK is actively involved in breeding the best quality dogs and also training and supplying them as working dogs to K9 units throughout the UK’s K9 industries which includes the British Police, Army, Prisons and also the Security Companies.

SK Lim is also one of the major dog suppliers for the Middle Eastern countries and all over the world.

He also breeds quality dogs for conformation, KC Obedience and Agility competitions.

Unlike many dog trainers who are good in theory, SK, through his experience gained throughout the years of going around K9 world is very hands-on and practical. As a result, some call him the ‘Godfather of the Godfathers of Dog World!’ Many people go to him for sensible advice.

SK has never forgotten his roots in Ipoh and being a filial son that he was, made regular trips back home to visit his mother who unfortunately passed away in October 2005.

Even During those moments of grief, he had the welfare of local canine affairs at heart and wanted to do something constructive.

As a result the SK Lim Schutzhund Challenge Trophy was conceived and made a reality today with his generous contributions.

SK is happily married to Judith Vu, who hails from Sabah, Malaysia. They are proud parents to Matthew Yip Lim, age 10 and Missia Yen Lim age 6 years. In his heart, he wishes he could return to Malaysia and Ipoh in particular, and retire in his 'Lyfame Ipoh' Kennel.

Judge Profile

   Mr. Poompitak Pensrinukun
Mr. Poompitak‘s involvement with Schutzhund started in 1996 when he became a member of East Coast Working Dog Club of Canada, working with Rottweiler puppies.

While overseas, he attended many Schutzhund seminars and trials including The Canadian National.

Upon his return to Thailand, he was appointed Training Warden of SV Thailand and was instrumental in organizing and judging several Schutzhund Trials including the King’s Cup Schutzhund Competition in Thailand.

He has in-depth knowledge of Schutzhund Trial Rules and has translated the SV Rules as well as several books on Schutzhund into Thai.

Poom is fluent in English and Japanese, and was at one time a University Lecturer. His other interests are Japanese Culture, Martial Art and Police K9 work.

Helpers Profile

   Michael Lee
Michael is the undisputed ‘Schutzhund King’ of Malaysia!

He became seriously involved in Schutzhund sport in 1998 and participated in his first WUSV World Championship in the year 2000 with his first competition dog, Naxo. Since then, he has participated in a total of seven world-class competitions: Five WUSV World Championships and two FCI World Schutzhund Competition with his Malinois.

His best achievement was in WUSV 2002 when he was placed 38th with his dog Naxo. He has spent a lot of time in Germany and of Europe training with top-class trainers in all aspects of Schutzhund.

Michael owns the famous von der Tigerland Kennel in Padang Besar, Perlis where he trains and breeds quality working dogs.

His experience in breeding and training Malinois is second to none in the country.

  Henry Yew
Until now, Henry is the best-kept secret in local Schutzhund scene! Nick-named ‘The Kampar Kid’, he was ‘discovered’ in Ipoh two years ago.

After passing his ‘courage test’ by taking the bite from the hardest biting dog Nando, a Malinois belonging to Michael, is now taken in by the latter as his understudy.

Henry was the sole Helper in the recent King’s Cup Schutzhund Trial in Hatyai, Thailand, taking on all six dogs and winning praises all round.

Henry is 21 years old and when he is not training dogs, gives English tuitions to school children and reads about or surf the net for working dogs and Schutzhund.

His immediate goal is to be the top Helper in the country, and eventually, become one of the top Schutzhund trainers.

He was purchased from Thailand where his potential was spotted by Michael Lee.

He is a hard dog and under the patient bonding and training of his owner, Peter Kong, and with the guidance and pupilage of Michael, has done well in competitions in Thailand and Malaysia.

Peter was bitten by the Schutzhund bug after he bought his first working GSD Paddy v.den Jungen Hansen in 2000.
He is a partner of Evershine Kennel in Johor Baru and hopes one day, to train a dog to SchH3 level. (pic from L to R: Michael Lee, Peter kong, Don and Mrs. Kong)

Zeno vd Berlex-Hoeve

Zeno van der Berlex-Hoeve is a 6 years old Belgian Shepherd ( Malinois ) imported from Belgium with an IPO3.

He has competed in Malaysia, Thailand and Belgium.

He is an easy dog on and off the field. At home he is very good with the family and protective of his territory

Mohd Azman claims to be ‘fairly new’ to dogsports.

He became seriously involved in Schutzhund after meeting some hardcore guys like Michael Lee, Peter Kong and a few German and Belgium trainers.

He normally trains at home or sometimes in Padang Besar and Johor Bahru with Michael and Peter.
Together this group has competed in Bangkok and Hatyai with some good achievements.

Judge's critics
Here are the judge notes of some of the winning dog-handler teams:

(In obedience the full score is 100 points for the novice and 60 for the pre-novice. For protection, it is 100 points for both.)

Zeno-Azman Obedience (B.92)
A very fine performance overall and good teamwork.  Heeling closely and attentive.  But should show slow pace more clearly (V).  Sit is O.K. (V). Down is good and recall is with medium speed (SG).  Retrieval of the dumbbell (V).  Retrieval over the hurdle--the dog touches the hurdle and sits crooked (G).  Retrieval over A-frame—dumbbell thrown too close and despite judge’s advice, handler chooses to proceed and the dog fails to climb back (G).  Send away is with medium speed (SG).  Long down is O.K. (V).

Protection (C. 90 TSB-A)
Almost a perfect performance! Blind search is very fast (V).  Strong barking in the bark-and-hold (V).  Escape—good grip and out cleanly (V).  Re-attack—good grip and out cleanly, but bump one time at the sleeve when handler approaches (V).  Long- attack—good grip and out cleanly.  But show dirty bite as handler approaches (B).

Ikea-Francis
Pre-novice Obedience (B.45)
Heeling on leash—the dog is not so attentive and is lagging sometimes.  Slow pace is not distinctive.  Dog does not sit in the group and needs compulsion (9).  Heeling off-leash—not so attentive, far and lagging (11). Sit is good (10).  Down and recall—handler’s help, medium speed and sits in front too far off (8).  Long down—the dog rolls on the ground (7).

Pre-novice Protection (C. 89 TSB-A)
Blind search is good (5). Bark-and-hold—barking is not so strong and shows dirty bites (9). Escape—grip is O.K., but shows dirty bites (17). Re-attack—shows dirty bites and dog circles the helper (32). Long attack—shows dirty bites (26).

Ayline—Aaron
Pre-novice Obedience(B. 57)

Heeling on-leash—dog is attentive and heeling closely(14).  Heeling off-leash—attentive and heeling closely (14).  Sits quickly (10). Down is good and fast recall, but bumps into handler (9).  Long down is good (10).

Rocco—Dr. Loo
Pre-novice Obedience (B.57)
Heeling on-leash—somewhat attentive and heeling closely, but far-off sometimes (13).  Sit is good (10).  Down is good and recall is with good speed (10).  Long down—the dog crawls away a few times (7).
