Notes on Obedience Routine
BH Obedience:
the heeling pattern is that of BH Obedience test routine and consists of heeling
in normal pace, on leash, up to 50 paces, about turn, change of pace (10 normal
paces, 10 fast paces and 10 slow paces), then at normal pace to start point,
right turn, heel at least 15 paces then right turn; heel another 20 paces, about
turn (left about turn), stop after 10 paces with automatic sit; heel forward 10
paces, left turn and then heel forward into a moving crowd, with at least one
right and one left turn and stop inside the crowd.

The pattern is repeated off leash: From the crowd, go back to start position,
remove leash and then heel into the moving crowd again with one left and one
right turns and stop. Go back to start position and start heeling pattern
exactly as before. On returning to the start position after that, do the sit and
down in motion and recall exercises as follows: At the judge’s signal, heel
forward 10 paces, command ‘sit’ and keep walking for 30 paces, turn and face
dog. Return to dog on signal, collect dog and heel to start position. On signal,
heel 10 paces and command ‘down’ while continue walking for 30 paces, turn
around and face dog. On signal, recall dog with one verbal command. On further
signal, finish at heel position with dog sitting at left side of the handler.
Long down exercise: At judge’s instruction, heel dog on leash to designated
location, remove leash, ‘down’ dog and walk 30 paces away. Stand with back
facing the dog, while a second dog is doing the heeling exercises. At the end of
long down, at the judge’s signal, return to dog, command ‘sit’, attach leash and
heel away.
Schutzhund1 Obedience:
the heeling pattern consists of the same pattern above, except that the dog
reports to the Judge off leash and completes the heeling pattern, with sit in
motion, down in motion, recall on down and finish, all without leash. The dog
then performs the retrieve exercises: on the flat, over 1 meter jump, over
climbing wall (A frame), followed by the send-away with down on command. The
long down is the same: handler 30 paces away with back facing the dog for the
duration of heeling pattern of the other dog. Heeling to and away from the long
down position are done off leash.
|
Notes on Protection Routine (SchH1)
Report to Judge off leash and subsequent
exercises are conducted without the leash: search two blinds; hold and bark for
30 seconds; handler approaches and collects dog (sits and heels way from helper
in the blind); prevention of escape, release on command, helper re-attacks and
drives dog, administering two stick hits; release on command; handler collects
dog without leash and team proceeds to long attack.
Long Attack: The helper runs towards the team in a threatening manner when
commanded to stop; dog catches helper who then drives and administer two stick
hits; dog releases when helper stops or on command (not more than 3), handler
approaches, collects dog and side transport helper to report to Judge.
|
The Judge’s
decisions are final. As this is a friendly competition, no
disputes or complaints will be entertained. The theme of this
event is fun and comradeship in Schutzhund Sport.

Judge’s
Profile:
|
|
Mr. Rinus
Bastiaansen
I was born in 1960
and grew up with dogs. I got my first GSD when I was 16 and
came in contact with dog sport then.
In the year 1980, I purchased my own GSD pup, and became a
member of VVDH (Belgium GSD Club) in the same year. With
this, my first competition dog, I competed later on in more
than 80 trials, including 4 times Regionals, and 3 times
Nationals. Since then I have worked several dogs to SchH III
, and until today I still enjoy training.
Right after I joined my club I got involved in Protection
and Helper work. I obtained my official trial helper license
in 1985, and in addition to many local trials, I was also
helper for many Regionals, Nationals and Selection Trials.
In 1987 I started breeding GSD's until the present day. I
strive to breed only healthy, stable working dogs with
strong characters. I became a member of SV Germany in 1989,
and in 1997 I also joined the United Schutzhund Clubs of
America as a member.
In the late 90's I became a working judge. Since then I have
judged in many Regionals, Nationals and Selection Trials, as
well as some International Trials.
I am a member of the VVDH Working Dog Committee and I am
involved in the training scheme for helpers.
Since 2001, I have been Team Captain of the Belgium WUSV
team, which was two times World Champions in 2004 and 2005.

Helpers’ Profile
 |
Henry Yew
Born and bred in Kampar, Perak,
Henry has been fascinated with dogs since childhood. Before he was exposed
to working GSDs, he kept a Great Dane and Cocker spaniel.
He was first introduced to Helper work during a Schutzhund seminar conducted
in Ipoh by Wener Kebernik from Germany in 2003.
Since then he has gone full time into Schutzhund and K9 training and is
currently the understudy with multiple International Schutzhund
Competitor/Trainer Michael Lee of Von Der Tiger Land Kennel in Padang Besar,
Perlis.
Henry was Trial Helper in several Schutzhund competitions in Thailand as
well as last year’s competition in Ipoh.
He is 22 years old and currently has no time for other pursuits other than
K9 matters. |
|
 |
Kannan Supramaniam
Although exposed to Schutzhund Helper work only in the year 2005, Kannan
has taken to it like duck to water due to his natural athletics ability and
enthusiasm.
His talents were discovered in Taiping and he has traveled to Germany
visiting Schutzhund Clubs and taking bites after bites from dogs whose
owners paid 2 Euros each for a bite!
He was a Rottweiler person until his ‘conversion’ to GSD by Ricky Chuah from
Taiping.
When not training or walking his GSDs in the scenic Taiping Lake Gardens or
pumping iron, Kannan works as Manufacturing Technical Engineer in Intel
factory making computer chips.
He is happily married and has an adorable 7 yr old daughter.

|
 |
Michael Lee
Seven times World Championship Schutzhund competitor Michael Lee is
certainly no stranger to local Schutzhund scene.
His best ranking at World Competition was 38th position and he has dominated
Protection competitions held in Thailand, including winning the prestigious
King’s Cup recently with his owner-trained Malinois.
His kennel Von Der Tiger Land is arguably the finest Schutzhund and K9
training facility in the country.
His experience in training working Malinois is second to none in the country |
