Dear Dr. Loo,
Please accept my sincere appreciation for inviting me as the Judge for
Schutzhund 2008. I commend your committee for organizing such a successful
event which was clearly enjoyed by all participants.
I must thank all participants for the effort which they put in for training
their dogs.
Having attended Schutzhund Ipoh 2006 and 2007, I can say with confidence that
the level of training and performance of the competitors has improved
significantly. I was honoured to have had the opportunity to Judge such
high quality dogs with such a high quality of training.
All participants also demonstrated a remarkable degree of sportsmanship and
camaraderie which are hallmarks of the sport. Even those who did not do as
well as they hoped accepted my decisions with grace and took it as a learning
experience to improve on their handling and training. This constructive
attitude will ensure their continued success in the sport.
BH - Obedience
The standard of this class was good. However, a majority of the
handlers were understandably nervous and may have forgotten the trial routine
and some of the rules.
This will improve with experience. These dogs appear to have a bright
future ahead of them and with more training and exposure, will certainly
improve.
SCH 1 - Obedience & Protection
The three dogs in Obedience were all very good dogs with excellent training.
They performed all the exercises very well, and could easily hold their own in
trials anywhere. Of the three, it was heartening to see that two dogs were
“Malaysian trained” dogs having received all of their formal training in
Malaysia. This speaks volumes for the training talent available in your
country.
For the protection, I had the largest entry in the history of this competition
with seven dogs. Of these seven, I was glad to see the same three dogs (as
in the Sch 1 Obedience) display a fantastic performance. The standard
between the top three dogs was so close that at times, I found my self
struggling to spot mistakes or errors when there were none! At the end of
the day, these teams put up a remarkable performance and were fully deserving of
the scores of 97/100 and 94/100.
Finally, I must commend Henry Yew who put up a fine performance as a helper for
the protection work. He was very fair to all the dogs and despite the
demanding nature of the work, gave his best and allowed each dog an equal
opportunity to display its protection skills.
With good dogs, good training and the sporting spirit, the future of Schutzhund
in Malaysia looks very bright.
Thank you.
